Governors

Governors support the Headteacher, staff, children and parents. They ensure that our school provides a safe, caring and stimulating learning environment that challenges the children.

They endorse the strong team work and whole school approach to learning which enables all children to achieve their best within the curriculum and gain confidence in their personal and social independence.

Governors have the overall responsibility for legal and financial matters, policies, appointments and monitoring achievement.

Currently we have a Governing Body of 7 members (plus vacancies) comprised of a range of people. Between them the aim is to bring a range of both skills and experience to the governing body, which will ensure that balanced and carefully considered decisions are made. Please see the information below for more details of Chilton Primary School Governors.

Mr Gary Kenworthy

Chair of Governors

I have been Chair of Governors at Chilton Primary for just over 2 years and a school governor since 2015.
I am a retired primary school teacher, having taught in Liverpool, Suffolk and Essex. I come from Ipswich, trained to be a teacher in the West Midlands, where I met my wife. We lived in Liverpool for ten years and then moved to Stowmarket in 1988 and our son was born shortly afterwards.
I also do voluntary work for the RSPB, the Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich, the Ipswich Children’s Book Group and the Mid Suffolk Light Railway. I enjoy the outdoors and walking and I am a keen reader and like to talk to both children and staff about the books they are reading. I regularly write book reviews and these are published online. I visit school as often as possible and like to support both staff and children with everything that they do at Chilton.

Mr B Shaw

Staff Governor

This is my 4th year in teaching that has seen me gain experience across Years 2, 3, 4 and 5. I recently moved to Stowmarket after spending most of my life in Essex, previously teaching in Tiptree where I was LKS2 Phase Lead. In 2022-2023, I have been studying for a National Professional Qualification in Leading Behaviour and Culture which I hope can be utilised to continue positively impacting the culture of the school. I am keen for children to be involved in the wider curriculum therefore you will often find me coaching sports clubs and attending after school competitions. Prior to teaching, I was a Senior Store Manager for many years for Next Retail, improving underperforming stores and leading projects that positively impacted the entire company.

Mrs Holly Lees

Parent Governor

I moved to Suffolk 9 years ago when my eldest was starting primary school. I have 6 children, 3 of whom attend Chilton Community Primary. My passion is supporting SEND children/families. I am pleased to be part of the governing team supporting the school and all our children moving forward.
